About this generation

The ninth-generation mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette (C9), evolving its predecessor's architecture while preserving a broad value-oriented price spread.

The ninth-generation Chevrolet Corvette, internally designated C9, further develops the mid-engine architecture introduced on the C8 generation. Led by chief engineer Tony Roma, the engineering philosophy focuses on surpassing the outgoing model's performance while keeping a wide price spread between attainable entry-level trims and top-tier halo variants rather than shifting into ultra-expensive exotic territory. The chassis retains the rear transaxle layout configured exclusively around a dual-clutch transmission, foregoing a manual gearbox due to packaging constraints behind the engine and prohibitive tooling and emissions validation costs.

Following the technical direction established by the late C8 lineup—which introduced GM's sixth-generation LS6 small-block V8 and front-motor hybrid all-wheel drive in the Grand Sport X—the C9 generation continues to rely on General Motors' internal V8 engine architecture paired with electrified variants. The model range maintains coupe and convertible body styles across a broad hierarchy of performance trims.
