The first generation Changan CS55 compact crossover debuted at the 2017 Shanghai Auto Show and remained in production until 2021. Built on Changan proprietary unibody platform, the model featured a transverse engine layout with an independent MacPherson strut front suspension and a multi-link rear setup. The exterior design demonstrated modern proportions with a bold front grille and sculpted side character lines. Power came from a 1.5-liter Blue Core turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 156 horsepower, paired with either a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed Aisin automatic transmission. All versions sent power exclusively to the front wheels. In 2020, the brand introduced the fully electric CS55 EV variant, equipped with a 218-horsepower electric motor and a battery pack delivering up to 403 kilometers of range under the NEDC cycle. Interior features included an 8-inch infotainment touchscreen, digital instrument cluster, dual-zone automatic climate control, and synthetic leather upholstery.
