The fourth-generation Cadillac Series 61 (1948–1951) featured early aircraft-inspired tailfins and introduced the modern OHV 331 V8 engine. The model represented a key landmark of its era within the Cadillac lineup.

The fourth-generation Cadillac Series 61 was produced from 1948 through 1951 on GM's B-body chassis. The post-war body design integrated smooth fender styling with tailfins inspired by the P-38 fighter plane. Offered as a four-door sedan and two-door Club Coupe fastback. A 1950 redesign enlarged the front grille. It served as Cadillac's entry-level model until it was replaced by the Series 62 line after 1951. The redesigned body interior provided increased shoulder room and improved outward visibility through expanded glass areas. Tailfins became the defining signature of the luxury brand's postwar styling.

Powered in 1948 by the 346 flathead V8 (150 hp), it upgraded in 1949 to Cadillac's new 331 cubic-inch (5.4-liter) OHV V8 producing 160 horsepower. Transmissions included the 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic, complemented by hydraulic drum brakes and independent front suspension. Standard and available equipment included power steering, power drum brakes, power window controls, power seat adjustment, and premium interior upholstery appointments.
