The third-generation Cadillac Series 61 was manufactured during 1942 and from 1946 through 1947 following wartime production suspension. Utilizing GM's B-body platform, it featured aerodynamic fastback body styling (known as Sedanette and Club Coupe) with lengthened pontoon front fenders. Postwar 1946 models added massive wrap-around bumpers and a refreshed grille mesh. Offered as a four-door sedan and two-door fastback coupe. The fastback sedanette roofline delivered high torsional rigidity and sleek sweeping body contours. The model achieved widespread popularity due to its combination of elegance and sporty proportions.
Power came from the 346 cubic-inch (5.7-liter) Monobloc V8 rated at 150 horsepower. The engine was paired with either a 4-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission or a 3-speed manual. Mechanical equipment included hydraulic drum brakes and independent coil-spring front suspension. Standard and available equipment included power steering, power drum brakes, power window controls, power seat adjustment, and premium interior upholstery appointments.
