Buick Excelle II (GEM) gallery (2018–2023)
The second generation of the budget compact Buick Excelle sedan built on GM's modular GEM architecture.
In June 2018, SAIC-GM revived the Buick Excelle nameplate with the launch of an all-new second-generation compact sedan. The vehicle was among the first production models built on General Motors' modular Global Emerging Markets (GEM) platform, engineered to maximize interior roominess and structural rigidity at an accessible price point. The model was produced exclusively as a four-door notchback sedan, featuring modern styling with Buick's wing-shaped grille, sculpted body contours, and streamlined proportions. Propulsion was provided by an efficient 1.3-liter naturally aspirated Ecotec inline-three petrol engine delivering 107 horsepower and 133 Nm of torque, linked to either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a continuously variable transmission (CVT). This setup achieved impressive fuel economy figures down to 4.6 liters per 100 kilometers. Standard and optional equipment included the eConnect infotainment system with smartphone integration, electronic stability control, and multiple airbags. Production of this generation concluded in China around 2023.
