The first generation of the Buick Envision mid-size crossover, initially developed for the Chinese market and later exported to North America.
The first-generation Buick Envision debuted in 2014 in China and arrived in North America for the 2016 model year, becoming the first GM vehicle built in China to be sold in the United States. Built on General Motors' global D2XX platform, the crossover featured a unibody construction with MacPherson struts up front and a multi-link rear suspension setup. Powertrain offerings included a 1.5-liter turbocharged Ecotec inline-four paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission for front-wheel-drive base trims, as well as a potent 2.0-liter LTG turbocharged four-cylinder delivering up to 260 hp paired with a 6-speed automatic, later upgraded to GM's 9-speed Hydra-Matic 9T50 transmission. Higher-trim models offered an advanced twin-clutch all-wheel-drive system that proactively distributed torque across the rear axle. A comprehensive mid-cycle refresh in 2018 brought revised exterior styling with Buick's signature winged grille, updated LED headlights, improved interior insulation, upgraded infotainment, and retuned chassis dynamics.
