Introduced for the 1959 model year, the first-generation Buick Electra replaced the long-running Roadmaster and Super lines as the pinnacle of Buick's luxury portfolio. Constructed on General Motors' full-size rear-wheel-drive C-body chassis with a 126.3-inch wheelbase, the Electra embraced dramatic late-1950s space-age styling featuring slanted 'Delta' tailfins and quad headlights. Body styles included a 2-door hardtop coupe, 4-door 4-window and 6-window hardtop sedans, and a 2-door convertible, along with the ultra-plush Electra 225 sub-series. Power was supplied exclusively by Buick's 401-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) 'Wildcat 445' Nailhead V8 engine producing 325 horsepower, routed through GM's Twin-Turbine Dynaflow automatic transmission (with Triple-Turbine Flightpitch offered briefly). Standard features included power steering, power brakes, and an opulent interior with luxurious fabrics, sold throughout the North American market.
