About the model

The first generation of the iX, carrying the chassis code I20, entered production in 2021 as a purpose-built electric SUV. The architecture relies on an aluminum spaceframe combined with carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer components known as the Carbon Cage.

Propulsion is provided by dual electrically excited synchronous motors positioned on the front and rear axles, delivering fully electric all-wheel drive. The motors operate without permanent magnets and send torque through single-speed reduction gearboxes, powered by a floor-mounted battery pack.

The lineup has evolved with higher-output dual-motor configurations and updated battery capacities. The I20 continues in production to the present day, serving as a technology showcase for the brand's electric vehicle program.
