About this generation

The revived BMW 8 Series returned as the flagship grand tourer lineup offering convertible, coupe, and Gran Coupe body styles with opulent luxury.

In 2018, BMW resurrected the 8 Series badge after nearly two decades, introducing a modern flagship family that reestablished the brand’s authority in the luxury GT market. The range spans three distinct body styles: the G15 coupe, the G14 convertible featuring a multi-layer soft top, and the spacious G16 Gran Coupe four-door liftback. Characterized by wide proportions, sculpted side flanks, and slim LED headlights, the exterior design exudes muscular elegance, while the cabin features CraftedClarity glass controls and Merino leather.

Underneath, the modern 8 Series utilizes BMW’s CLAR architecture, incorporating carbon-fiber, aluminum, and magnesium structural elements to optimize rigidity and weight distribution. Power comes from turbocharged inline-six petrol and diesel engines equipped with 48V mild-hybrid tech, alongside a potent 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 in the M850i. Paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, xDrive all-wheel drive, and integral active steering, the 8 Series offers effortlessness on highway cruises and agility on tight roads.
