Debuting in 2019, the F40 generation marked a major structural transformation by transitioning to BMW's front-wheel drive UKL2/FAAR architecture. This shift dramatically improved rear passenger legroom and cargo capacity, making the hatchback far more practical for everyday family life.

Despite the layout shift, BMW's ARB traction control technology ensured crisp front-end turn-in and minimal torque steer. The range-topping M135i xDrive utilized a 306-hp turbocharged engine and intelligent all-wheel drive, offering confident all-weather performance in a compact footprint.
