Audi RS6 I (C5/4B) gallery (2002–2004)
Developed with Cosworth, the inaugural Audi RS6 featured a twin-turbo 450 hp V8 engine and debuted Dynamic Ride Control in Avant and sedan bodies.
Introduced in 2002 by quattro GmbH, the first-generation Audi RS6 (C5) redefined high-performance family transport. Power came from a 4.2-liter 40-valve V8 engine twin-turbocharged and finely tuned in partnership with Cosworth Technology, delivering 450 hp and 560 Nm of torque. Transmitted via a heavy-duty five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission and Torsen-based quattro all-wheel drive, the RS6 sprinted from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.7 seconds. The limited-production RS6 Plus edition pushed total output further to 480 hp.
The C5 generation debuted Audi's groundbreaking Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) system, which fluidically linked diagonal shock absorbers across the chassis to combat body roll and pitch without heavy electronic actuators. Available as both a sleek Avant wagon and a stealthy executive sedan, the original RS6 built an instant cult following for its muscular flared arches, dual oval exhausts, and unmatched ability to haul families at autobahn speeds in any weather condition.
