Unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show, the second-generation Audi R8 (Type 4S) shared its Modular Sportscar System (MSS) platform with the Lamborghini Huracán. Its hybrid aluminum and carbon-fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP) Audi Space Frame increased torsional rigidity by 40 percent while paring overall weight. Design details included divided Sideblades and optional Laser spot headlights.

Powertrain options were exclusively naturally aspirated 5.2-liter V10 FSI engines delivering between 540 and 620 hp, mated to a fast 7-speed S tronic transmission and electro-hydraulic quattro AWD. Audi also introduced a limited-production electric R8 e-tron variant (462 hp). The Type 4S marked the grand finale of Audi's combustion supercar lineage in 2024.
