Acura Legend I (KA1-KA6) gallery (1985–1990)
The first-generation Acura Legend (KA1-KA6) luxury model was produced from 1985 to 1990 in sedan and coupe body styles.
Launching in late 1985 for the 1986 model year, the first-generation Acura Legend (KA1-KA6 chassis) inaugurated the Acura brand as Japan's first dedicated luxury flagship sedan. Co-developed with Britain's Austin Rover Group, the Legend introduced full-size luxury amenities and double-wishbone front and rear suspension to a front-wheel-drive platform. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.
Initial sedans were powered by a 2.5-liter C25A V6 producing 151 horsepower. For 1987, Acura launched the Legend Coupe alongside an upgraded 2.7-liter C27A V6 producing 161 horsepower across both body styles. Transmissions were a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic with electronic lockup control. Available equipment included leather seating, automatic climate control, anti-lock brakes (ALB), and a power driver seat. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
