The first-generation Acura Integra (DA1-DA4) was produced from 1985 to 1989, launching the Acura brand in North America.
Introduced in 1985 and launched in the United States in March 1986, the first-generation Integra (DA1-DA4 chassis) served as a launch model for Honda's luxury Acura division alongside the Legend sedan. Available as a 3-door hatchback, 5-door hatchback, or 4-door sedan, the Integra featured iconic pop-up headlights, a low cowl line, and sport-tuned independent double-wishbone front suspension paired with a trailing-arm rear beam axle setup. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.
Power came from a 1.6-liter DOHC 16-valve D16A1 four-cylinder engine featuring PGM-FI fuel injection, producing 113 to 118 horsepower. Transmission options included a crisp 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic with a torque converter lockup feature. A 1988 mid-cycle update revised cylinder head geometry to boost output to 118 horsepower, restyled the instrument cluster, and updated interior fabric materials before production concluded in 1989. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
