Acura EL II (ES1) gallery (2000–2005)

Introduced in late 2000 for the 2001 model year, the second-generation Acura 1.7EL (ES1 chassis) continued as a Canadian-exclusive entry-luxury sedan. Built on the seventh-generation Honda Civic architecture, it adopted MacPherson strut front suspension while adding leather seating, automatic climate control, and heated front seats. Engineering priorities for this generation focused on structural rigidity, chassis refinement, and elevating active safety capabilities.

Propulsion was supplied by a 1.7-liter D17A2 inline-four engine producing 127 horsepower with VTEC technology, mated to a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. A 2004 refresh redesigned front and rear fascias, added new alloy wheel patterns, and updated cabin materials prior to being replaced by the CSX. A comprehensive list of standard features combined with proven powertrain durability helped secure a strong market presence in its segment.
