Jaguar Ready to Face Competition with Its Coupe Endeavour
F-Type coupe will remain one niche down when the rumours of turning XJ into a coupe version are realized.
With production of XK coming to a stop in a few months, Jaguar needs to save its positions as a luxury coupe company, especially considering the release of S-Class from Mercedes-Benz to rival with. Thus, the future XJ coupe will be marketed as a 2+2 grand tourer standing at the same level with S-Class and Continental GT from Bentley.
The release of F-Type deteriorated the sales figures of XK model. Since the date of its launch 54,000 coupes have found their buyers, but in 2013 the company managed to sale only 4,000 units. The next two-door vehicle will get a price tag of minimum $100,000 in order to tell the world that a principally new car has arrived after F-Type. Solutions under the bonnet will probably be limited by the currently used supercharged engines with six and eight cylinders. The only drawback is the time of release which can easily be set to several years from now.
