Over 50,000 Prospective Customers Register Interest in Electric Jaguar Type 01

Jaguar's controversial reinvention as an ultra-luxury electric vehicle brand is already generating substantial interest from potential buyers, the vast majority of whom have never previously owned one of the company's cars. More than 50,000 people across the globe have officially registered their interest in the British automaker's electric reboot, with approximately 80 percent coming from outside its traditional customer base.

Speaking with Australian publication Drive, Jaguar managing director Rawdon Glover shared early feedback regarding the public response. Glover explained that over 50,000 individuals have signed up for what the company terms "KMIs" (keep me informed), allowing Jaguar to communicate with them regularly. Notably, around 80 percent of those prospective clients are entirely new to the marque. Glover previously estimated that up to 85 percent of existing Jaguar owners would likely look elsewhere during the brand's shift toward high-end electric vehicles.

The early reception suggests that Jaguar's radical shift in strategy may be achieving its intended purpose. Owned by Tata Motors, the British manufacturer retired its entire previous lineup—including models such as the XE, XF, and XJ—to pursue an all-electric portfolio. Rather than attempting to convince traditional customers to adopt electric power, Jaguar is actively seeking a different demographic of affluent, younger buyers who prioritize distinctive styling, advanced technology, and individuality. The company aims to compete against elite ultra-luxury marques like Bentley rather than legacy German competitors BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi.

Leading this revival is the 2027 Jaguar Type 01, a striking four-door electric grand tourer revealed in production form earlier this month. Despite persistent industry rumors regarding a potential return to internal combustion engines, Jaguar maintains that it has no intention of backtracking. Company leadership remains fully committed to an electric-only lineup, ruling out gasoline engines and plug-in hybrid powertrains. While Glover acknowledged that positive registration numbers validate the decision to move upmarket, the critical milestone will be converting initial online curiosity into finalized vehicle orders.
