Volkswagen Lengthens ID. Buzz Cargo Electric Van by 250 Millimeters

Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles has officially introduced the long-wheelbase (LWB) version of the ID. Buzz Cargo, making the all-electric work van significantly more practical and capable. The new configuration adds 250 millimeters (9.8 inches) to the wheelbase, increasing the overall cargo volume to 4.4 cubic meters (155.4 cubic feet)—a gain of 0.5 cubic meters (17.7 cubic feet) compared to the standard-wheelbase model. The load compartment floor now measures 2,458 mm (96.8 inches) in length, while the width between wheel housings remains 1,230 mm (48.4 inches).

Utility is further improved with a second sliding door fitted as standard equipment. This side aperture is 190 mm (7.5 inches) wider than on the standard van, allowing operators to load a standard Euro pallet directly through the side. The cargo area comes equipped with a wooden load floor as standard, and the cabin can be ordered with either two or three seats. In addition, manually adjustable lumbar support has joined the options list. Maximum braked towing capacity is rated at 1,800 kg (3,968 pounds) for both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The stretched electric van also receives an upgraded battery with an energy capacity of 86 kWh, up from the standard model's 79 kWh. Buyers can choose between two powertrains: a single-motor rear-wheel-drive variant delivering 286 horsepower, or a dual-motor 4Motion all-wheel-drive version producing 340 horsepower. Payload capacity depends on the chosen drivetrain, offering up to 700 kg (1,543 pounds) for the rear-drive model and up to 606 kg (1,336 pounds) for the 4Motion setup.

Technological updates include an enhanced driver-assistance system capable of detecting traffic lights and automatically bringing the van to a complete stop when approaching a red signal. One-pedal driving has also been implemented for easier urban maneuvering. Additionally, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB features Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) bidirectional charging capabilities, supplying external electrical equipment with up to 3 kW of continuous power and 3.6 kW at peak output. Inside the cockpit, Volkswagen has responded to customer feedback by replacing touch-sensitive steering-wheel controls with tactile physical buttons.

In Germany, the ID. Buzz Cargo LWB is priced from €50,630 net for the 4Motion all-wheel-drive edition, while the rear-wheel-drive variant is scheduled to follow at a starting price of €48,490 net. The extended wheelbase commands a €2,340 net premium over the corresponding standard-wheelbase Cargo van.
