Stellantis Plans Nine New Models Priced Under $40,000
New car prices continue to hover around $50,000, and the selection of affordable vehicles continues to dwindle. Stellantis is trying to counter those rising costs with several new models priced under $40,000. At this week's Automotive News Congress in Detroit, Stellantis CEO Antonio Filosa stated that there is a “huge opportunity” for the automaker to launch more affordable models, according to The Detroit News. In total, the company plans to introduce nine new cars with prices starting below $40,000.
Today, the Jeep Compass serves as the automaker’s cheapest offering in the United States, excluding the Fiat Topolino quadricycle. The Jeep technically starts under $30,000 before destination charges. Back in May, when the conglomerate revealed its product roadmap, Stellantis announced that nine of its 11 new vehicles planned for North America would cost under $40,000, with two slipping below $30,000.
Among the upcoming models, the new Chrysler Airflow mid-size SUV will start under $40,000. Chrysler is also preparing two compact offerings, named the Arrow and Arrow Cross, with entry-level variants expected around $25,000. Ram plans to introduce the Rampage compact pickup in 2028 to rival the Ford Maverick, which starts below $30,000, while also reviving the mid-size Dakota pickup under the $40,000 mark. Filosa noted that Stellantis aims to be relevant and strong against rivals like Ford and the Toyota Tacoma. Another affordable entry could be the Dodge GLH, a mid-size crossover targeting the sedan and hot-hatch audience.
Alongside budget entries, Stellantis continues its electrified push. Jeep recently revived the Cherokee as a hybrid featuring a turbocharged 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine and a two-motor eCVT, producing 210 hp and 230 lb-ft of torque. Furthermore, extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrains are entering production: the Jeep Grand Wagoneer EREV pairs electric drive with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 generator, while the Ram 1500 REV is scheduled for production in April 2027.
