Stellantis BOW Driverless Electric Delivery Concept Debuts Without a Cabin
Stellantis has revealed the BOW concept at the IAA Transportation show in Hannover, Germany, presenting an unconventional take on commercial logistics. Developed by the automaker's commercial vehicle business unit, Stellantis Pro One, in partnership with autonomous driving specialist UQI Robotics, the vehicle is a fully electric and driverless delivery module. The name BOW stands for Box On Wheels, reflecting a design philosophy that completely strips away the cabin, windshield, dashboard, and driver seat to create a rolling cargo unit built strictly around parcel transport rather than a human operator.
Stellantis designed the concept specifically to explore autonomous logistics in tightly controlled environments, such as factory floors, hospitals, airports, and designated low-emission urban logistics zones. The company deliberately avoided highway travel and open mixed-traffic city streets, focusing on structured, predictable settings where autonomous navigation can be tested safely without hazards like unpredictable cyclists, double-parked delivery vehicles, or pedestrians.
Neither Stellantis nor UQI Robotics disclosed detailed technical specifications for the prototype. The companies have kept silent on battery capacity, electric driving range, motor output, maximum payload, sensor configurations, and target SAE autonomy levels. Despite the lack of numbers, the concept's debut coincided with the introduction of Pro One NEXT, Stellantis's fleet uptime operating system, alongside a new commercial van at the Hannover exhibition.
The project highlights an increasing trend where legacy automakers partner with specialized robotics firms to tackle autonomous delivery rather than developing proprietary self-driving systems entirely in-house. Stellantis plans to begin initial real-world validation trials for the BOW platform in Europe, though the company emphasized that the project remains an early-stage concept with no set production schedule or open order books.
