Renault Refreshes the Megane EV With New Styling, Longer Driving Range

When it first arrived, the Megane E-Tech Electric marked an important step for Renault as its first mass-produced EV built on a dedicated electric platform. Since then, the company’s EV range has grown significantly, and now the original Megane EV is getting its turn for a substantial update.

For the 2026 model year, Renault has reworked the car’s appearance with a cleaner front-end design that replaces the previous unusual daytime running lights. The new lighting setup uses a diamond-inspired pattern, with stacked elements on both sides of the front bumper. The gloss-black front panel has also been revised with a denser geometric look around the badge.

At the rear, the taillamps now have a more sculpted, three-dimensional appearance, while the bumper has been reshaped to look more substantial and includes a diffuser-style insert with vertical details. Renault says the revised design gives the hatchback a broader stance.

Inside, the layout remains familiar. The car keeps separate physical climate controls, along with a 12-inch portrait infotainment screen and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. One notable change is a driver-monitoring camera mounted in the A-pillar, added to meet European safety requirements. It also supports driver identification, allowing the car to recall individual preferences.

More Distance, Quicker Recharging

The biggest mechanical change is the switch to a new lithium iron phosphate battery with a net capacity of 67 kWh. Thanks to this pack, the Megane E-Tech Electric can now cover up to 311 miles, or 500 kilometers, on the WLTP cycle. Because the new battery is larger, Renault has raised the ride height slightly.

Charging speeds improve as well. DC fast-charging capacity climbs to 165 kW, cutting the 15-to-80 percent charging stop to about 24 minutes. That makes the updated model noticeably faster to top up than before.

Power still comes from the same front-mounted electric motor, which delivers 215 hp and 300 Nm of torque. Performance remains unchanged, with a 0-62 mph time of 7.6 seconds and a top speed of 100 mph.

Renault will simplify the trim range to just two versions: Techno and Esprit Alpine. New wheel designs will be available, along with a Satin Slate Blue exterior color. The updated Megane E-Tech Electric is scheduled to reach European markets later this year.
