Renault Avantime Arrives in Gran Turismo 7's Latest Update
Gran Turismo 7 continues its legacy as a premier driving simulator, delighting enthusiasts since its launch in March 2022 on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. This marked a significant milestone as the franchise expanded its reach across two gaming consoles simultaneously.
While fans eagerly await a direct sequel, Polyphony Digital keeps the experience fresh with monthly updates that introduce new tracks, online competitions, and a selection of additional vehicles.
In the latest update, players can explore new events on established global circuits and enjoy a new setting in the game’s 'Scapes' mode. However, the standout addition this August is a particularly unique vehicle.
Among the new entries are two high-powered Chevrolet Corvette concepts and an obscure electric model, but the real surprise is the inclusion of the 2002 Renault Avantime in GT7. This quirky minivan adds a distinctive flair to the lineup of classic racing machines.
Previously featured in titles like Gran Turismo 4, Gran Turismo PSP, Gran Turismo 5, and Gran Turismo 6, the Avantime skipped Gran Turismo Sport to return to platforms that celebrate a broader variety of vehicles beyond just the most exotic and sporty models.
The Renault Avantime in the game is equipped with a single engine option: a 3.0-liter V6 featuring four valves per cylinder, totaling 24 valves. In its prime, it was also available with diesel and gasoline variants producing up to 207 horsepower and 210 pound-feet of torque, paired with either a five-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission.
Despite its unconventional status in a racing simulator, the Avantime accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in approximately eight seconds. While not the slowest vehicle available, its charm lies in its status as a unique and collectible model.

In addition to the Renault Avantime, Chevrolet has introduced two innovative Corvette concepts — the CX Concept and the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo Concept. These models were showcased at The Quail in Monterey, celebrating iconic motorsport vehicles.
Although the Corvette CX and CX.R Vision concepts are not expected to enter production, they are available for driving within the game. Additionally, Gran Turismo 7 features the 2026 Afeela 1, the first electric vehicle from the Sony Honda Mobility collaboration, representing a forward-thinking addition under Sony Interactive Entertainment's banner.
The Renault Avantime remains a beloved cult classic due to its unique design. Despite its initial lack of commercial success, producing only around 8,500 units between 2001 and 2003, some Avantimes made it to Canada due to the 15-year import rule.
For American enthusiasts, the 25-year import regulation will allow the Renault Avantime to be legally imported starting in 2026. Until then, fans can enjoy piloting this distinctive vehicle within Gran Turismo 7.
