Concept Visuals Reveal What the Upcoming BMW M3 Might Look Like
- This concept envisions the i3 with bold, M-inspired styling elements.
- The production M3 is anticipated to feature a quad-motor configuration paired with a high-capacity battery.
- Speculations hint at the new M3 delivering more than 1,300 horsepower.
Following the full reveal of the latest BMW i3, the company is now focusing on the high-performance M3 model. Although BMW hasn’t officially introduced it yet, spy shots of the upcoming M3 prototype have surfaced online, generating excitement among enthusiasts.
The vehicle isn’t expected to launch for another year and a half, but images posted on Instagram by the Wilcoblok account show a test mule camouflaging the final look of what might become BMW’s first fully electric M3.
A More Aggressive Yet Refined Design
The spy photos reveal a sedan with a noticeably more assertive posture compared to the new i3, including a revamped front fascia. The grille area features a diamond-pattern detail, while the bumper is dominated by a sizable central air intake interrupted by a section matching the body color. Additional boxy-shaped lighting fixtures flank each side, a design departure for BMW.
On the hood sits a large black air intake, reinforcing the sporty character typical of M models, though some design choices remain unconventional. Interestingly, the car lacks wider track widths seen on prior M models and is missing signature elements like aerodynamic mirror caps that have historically defined BMW M vehicles.
Powertrain and Performance Insights
BMW has disclosed some technical expectations, confirming the electric M3 will likely be equipped with four motors—one powering each wheel—enabling precise torque vectoring and enhanced handling. The battery pack, estimated between 100 and 108.7 kWh, will be exclusive to this M model, engineered to sustain high levels of performance for extended periods.
Rumors suggest the electric M3 could surpass 1,300 horsepower, although official figures remain unconfirmed. BMW is also developing synthetic engine sounds and simulated gear shifts to maintain an engaging driving experience despite the electric powertrain.
Production is slated to begin in early 2027. Importantly, the traditional combustion-engine M3 will continue to be offered alongside this upcoming electric variant.
