Chery opens orders for the 469-horsepower diesel hybrid pickup Stockman
Pre-orders for the Chery Stockman body-on-frame pickup truck have opened in Australia. The vehicle is positioned as the world's first production pickup featuring a diesel-based plug-in hybrid (PHEV) powertrain. Buyers can place a pre-order reservation for 1,000 Australian dollars (around 60 thousand rubles), with the deposit being fully refundable as the manufacturer has not yet published an official price list.
The new model's powertrain combines a 2.5-liter internal combustion engine and an electric motor. The total system output reaches 350 kW (469 hp), with peak torque of 800 Nm. The all-electric range on the NEDC cycle is 100 km, while the claimed average fuel consumption is 2 liters per 100 km. The truck is capable of towing a braked trailer weighing up to 3,500 kg.
The dimensions of the Chery Stockman are 5,450 mm in length, 2,010 mm in width, and 1,890 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,250 mm. Ground clearance is 247 mm, and the cargo bed dimensions are 1,560 × 1,560 × 500 mm. The five-seat cabin features a digital instrument cluster, a head-up display (HUD), and a large central touchscreen, while engineers have retained a convenient bank of physical buttons.
In the Australian market, the new hybrid will compete both with electrified Chinese classmates such as the BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha, and with recognized segment bestsellers — the Toyota Hilux, Ford Ranger, and Mitsubishi Triton.
