2026 Subaru Outback Wilderness Unveiled: Bold Design Meets Off-Road Prowess

For enthusiasts seeking greater exploration capabilities, the latest Outback introduces the Wilderness variant. Launched alongside the seventh-generation Outback family at the 2025 New York Auto Show, this edition maintains Subaru's trusted formula while adding unique enhancements.

The Wilderness model boasts increased ground clearance of 9.5 inches, up from the standard 8.7 inches, along with additional badges and copper trim elements that distinguish its rugged appearance.

Optimized Suspension and Stability

Beyond aesthetic upgrades, the Wilderness features a specially tuned suspension system. Engineers have integrated acceleration sensors in strategic locations, allowing the electronically controlled dampers to better interpret the vehicle's movements across various terrains, whether navigating trails or highways. This results in improved stability in almost any driving condition, with a particular emphasis on off-road performance.

The enhanced X-MODE off-road setting complements these adjustments, enabling the Outback Wilderness to effectively handle challenging landscapes. Equipped with Bridgestone Dueler all-terrain tires mounted on 17-inch trim-specific wheels, the vehicle is well-prepared for diverse driving environments.

Exterior Enhancements

The Wilderness edition features substantial exterior modifications, including a boldly branded grille with prominent Subaru logos and copper accents on elements such as fog lights and roof rails. Wilderness badges adorn the rear gate and C-pillars, while the interior showcases embroidered details on the headrests. Additionally, the seats are upholstered in water-resistant synthetic leather, with an option for premium Nappa leather trim.

Performance Specifications

Powering the Outback Wilderness is a turbocharged 2.4-liter boxer four-cylinder engine, delivering 260 horsepower and an increased torque of 277 pound-feet. This engine drives all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) that offers a simulated eight-speed manual mode for those who prefer more control.

Technical Details

The vehicle's approach angle is 20 degrees, departure angle is 22.5 degrees, and the breakover angle stands at 21.2 degrees, thanks to redesigned front and rear bumpers and enforced underbody protection.

Availability and Pricing

Pricing details for the 2026 Outback Wilderness will be disclosed closer to its release, which is expected in early 2026.
