The 2025 Subaru WRX tS Gets a Price Hike

Subaru WRX: Rising Prices and Changes in the Lineup

The Subaru WRX is known for providing affordable performance, but that is changing for the 2025 model year. Prices have increased across the entire lineup, and the base model has been removed.

The entry-level WRX, which was previously priced at $33,855, has been replaced by the Premium trim, which starts at $36,920. This represents a significant jump of $3,065 from last year.

Why the Price Increase?

While the elimination of the base model contributes to the price hike, it's not the only factor. The new base model, the Premium, is $1,165 more expensive than last year, including the higher destination charge of $1,170. According to Subaru, last year only a small percentage of customers opted for the base model, with almost half choosing the Premium trim.

As for the high-performance WRX tS, it was unveiled in May but its price was only recently announced. Priced at $46,875, the manual-only special edition is a whopping $4,100 more expensive than the WRX TR it replaces. It now shares the same price as the CVT-only GT, which has seen a price increase of $1,540 compared to last year.

Other Updates for 2025

For the 2025 model year, the WRX receives some cosmetic updates. The grille and trunk lid feature red badges, and a new Galaxy Purple color option is available for an extra $395. Inside, there's updated red stitching on the dashboard, and the Limited and GT trims include contrasting accents on the seat headrests and bolsters.

Competition and Conclusion

With the elimination of the base model, the competition for affordable performance sedans is becoming limited. The Toyota GR Corolla starts at $39,995, while pricing for the Volkswagen Golf R is yet to be disclosed for 2025. The previous-generation Golf R had a starting price of $47,690, but the manual gearbox is no longer available, suggesting that the new Golf R could approach or surpass the $50,000 mark.

Despite the price increase, the Subaru WRX remains a compelling option for enthusiasts looking for a performance sedan.
