Audi begins massive downsizing

Audi planned to lay off ten thousand employees.

The reason is a shortage of automotive microchips. Parts have also become a problem for the release of several new products of the company.

According to Markus Dussmann, director of the German company, global shortages of semiconductors will not affect production plans for 2021. The production ramp-up will start in the second half of 2021.

At the moment, Audi's cars are in good demand even though the coronavirus pandemic is not receding. Most of the company's cars are bought in China, where the economy is recovering faster from the pandemic.

By the way, the chip shortage has temporarily lowered car output in Germany from Volkswagen, Ford, and Daimler.
