Public Perception of VW Scandal

The VW dieselgate scandal is not just influencing the perception of the company by public.

Autolist has conducted a survey not long ago. It was found out that public trust in the automotive industry has fallen by 12 % in the result of VW’s cheating on EPA diesel emissions tests. 2,387 car owners took part in a survey. It was estimated that the perception of German engineering quality has dropped by 18%. Besides, the trust to VW quality has fallen by 27%.

The willingness to purchase a VW car reached a 28% point. The perception of the company’s environmental consciousness has dropped by 47%.

Autolist assures that companies in Germany and the whole automotive industry have been anxious about the potential results after the diesel scandal. The survey shows that their worries are justified. Vehicle owners had to rate the severity of the scandal. The highest possible percentage was 66%. The highest severity rating was for a legal infraction evaluation. 25% decided that it is equal or more severe than the BP oil spill. 62% rated the highest severity rating for environmental reasons.
