Ford Explorer Exhaust Leaks Are Being Investigated

The NHTSA has started a probe into 2011-2015 model year Explorers. The reason is a possible exhaust leak.

154 complaints came in. Each of them had to deal with the smell of exhaust inside the car. Many clients had concerns about exposure to carbon monoxide which can result in deaths.

According to the company, it is fully collaborating with the investigation. So, there might be a recall in case there will be enough evidence found. As far as we know, one crash had to deal with this problem. However, NHTSA reports, that there were no injuries. The organization has not revealed the total quantity of the considered model.

The vehicle owners say that the worst issue arises when the car is full of throttle, when the air conditioning is in recirculating mode and when climbing steep hills.

The automaker has prepared 2 different tech service bulletins concerning the problem. However, the owners insist that the repair at the dealership did not help with the odour.
