Testing of Self-Driving Chevrolet Volts will start in 2016

General Motors has confirmed that it is going to test a fleet of self-driving Chevrolet Volts in 2016.

The fleet of the cars under consideration will be possible to see roaming around the American company’s Technical Centre campus situated in Warren (Michigan). The workers will be able to summon one of the vehicles and choose the destination with the help of an application, similarly to Uber, but… without a driver! The program will play s role of a rapid-development laboratory with the help of which data and lessons will be provided. In such a way technical capabilities of GM in autonomous cars will be expedited. General Motors says that it has been testing the “Super Cruise” technology for three years already. The automaker announced that the feature will be present on the 2017 Cadillac CT6.

The producer also told about two new ride- and car-sharing projects. One of them will see the world at the beginning of the next year in the United States. The other one is operating today in NYC. The projects are aimed at expanding the company’s participation in alternate transportation offerings. Besides, it will help generating additory profits and revenue.

The CEO says that the combination of changing needs of consumers and rapidly improving technology create an inflection point for the transportation industry that could not be seen in decades. There are people who might find this change staggering. However, the ones who work with it see the chance to be a disruptor. It is believed at GM that the decades of their leadership in car connectivity are basic to their try of redefining the future of personal mobility.
