Ford Closes its Plant in Belgium

Ford has stated that its Genk factory in Belgium is currently closed after manufacturing its last car on Thursday.

The Blue Oval Company said in the second part of 2012 that they were planning to close the plant in Genk, Belgium. Now the assembly line has been shut down for good after manufacturing the last vehicle. It is a white Galaxy and it will be donated to charity. The plant manufactured nearly 14 million vehicles for the past fifty years. Before the end it assembled the Galaxy, Mondeo, and S-MAX.

Manufacturing has been replaced to Valencia, Spain. This fact eliminated nearly 11,800 jobs, states a study by University of Hassel. It is interesting to know that it covers the impact on suppliers who will be compelled to fire some of the workers for matching the manufacturing with the lower demand.

In the further months the automaker will keep several hundred of workers for dismantling the assembly lines.
