VW XL1 Receives 261-MPG, NOT a Concept Model

With announced 261-mpg rate, the VW XL1 is the vehicle with the best fuel economy in the whole world while sporting a design like no other model on the road nowadays.

The production version of the XL1 debuted at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show, with a fuel consumption of 0.9 liters per 100 km. According to the German brand, the 2-seater model can be driven up to 31 miles with the help of pure electricity. It hardly tips the scales at over 1,750 lbs and has a drag coefficient of only 0.189, and a low center of gravity.

The XL1 is enhanced by a 47-hp, 2-cylinder turbo-diesel motor combined with a 27 hp (20 kW) electric engine. All the power is sent via a 7-speed, dual-clutch transmission and can accelerate to 62 mph in 12.7 sec.

With a side-by-side seating place, this is not a concept model. VW will construct only 250 vehicles with a price about $100,000.
