VW Uncovers Fresh Diesel Engine to Substitute 2.0L TDI

VW has informed that a fresh diesel motor will come to the 2015 Passat, Golf, Jetta and Beetle, to substitute the current 2.0-liter diesel model.

While the motors share bore spacing, VW informs that this fresh motor has been constructed to lower emissions, while providing more power. The fresh engine, designated EA288, provides 10 more horsepower than the previous diesel, and is rated at 150 hp and 236 lb-ft of torque. It is a turbocharged, common-rail, direct-injection 4-cylinder.

To help upgrade emissions, a fresh exhaust gas recirculation system has been set up, the water-cooled intercooler and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) valve have been integrated with the intake manifold and the exhaust after-treatment details have been moved closer to the motor by coupling the diesel particulate filter (DPF) with the selective catalytic reduction (SCR) catalyst.

To lower friction in the engine, VW has added fresh camshaft and balancer shaft bearings, brand-new piston rings, and a two-stage oil pump with volumetric flow regulation.

This fresh engine will debut in the 2015 Jetta, Passat, Golf and Beetle, which will all be offered in dealerships by the 2nd half of 2014. Basically, this engine will substitute every 2.0-liter TDI Clean Diesel equipped in an Audi or VW TDI Clean Diesel vehicle.
