2014 Corvette Stingray Estimated at 28 MPG With Automatic

Stick-shiftable models are vanishing from even the most enthusiast-driven of cars as interest in rowing gears fades away. 

It used to be true that driving a manual could provide enhanced fuel efficiency over an automatic transmission. Not any longer. Significantly more practical self-shifters usually break that barrier down, but it isn’t true in Chevrolet’s 7th-gen Corvette. Customers may choose between a 7-speed manual transmission with rev-matched downshifts or a 6-speed automatic.

Authorized EPA estimates for the slushbox are currently available and suggest the vehicle should provide 16 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. That’s a progress over the outgoing generation’s 15/25 mpg rating.

But the manual squeezes out a slightly exceeding 17/29 mpg… for now. Before the current Corvette was unveiled, reports suggested that the vehicle would come with an 8-speed automatic. GM has confirmed that it is working on an 8-speed gearbox and that it will be constructed in Toledo, Ohio.
