XPeng P5 I gallery (2021–2024)
An innovative compact sedan, recognized as one of the world's first production vehicles to feature integrated LiDAR sensors.
XPeng P5 was introduced as an accessible 'smart' vehicle, focused on bringing advanced autonomous driving technologies into the compact sedan segment. The model's key engineering feature was the integration of two LiDAR sensors into the front bumper, which allowed the Xpilot autonomous system to obtain high-precision 3D representations of the surrounding environment in real-time. The vehicle's architecture was based on a platform optimized to balance passenger comfort with energy consumption efficiency. The car's interior offered functionality unique to its class: the front seats could fully recline, turning the cabin into a mobile bedroom or home cinema with a projector, highlighting the brand's focus on a younger audience and a 'lifestyle' approach.
The P5's powertrain was notable for its efficiency, providing a decent range on a single charge, while the energy management system allowed for rapid charging at specialized stations. Despite its positioning as a mass-market model, the P5 was packed with the complex computing power required for obstacle recognition algorithms and navigation in dense city traffic. The model demonstrated the company's ability to implement high-level active safety systems in relatively affordable cars. The end of production in 2024 concluded the lifecycle of this model, which fulfilled its strategic goal of testing environmental perception technologies, paving the way for the brand's more sophisticated and global models utilizing the SEPA 2.0 architecture.
