Wuling Sunshine I gallery (2002–2010)
The original generation of the Wuling Sunshine microvan debuted in 2002 and went on to become one of the most widely sold vehicles in Chinese history.
Developed by the SAIC-GM-Wuling joint venture, the first generation of this commercial microvan was designed as an affordable utility vehicle for business and personal transport. The vehicle utilizes a rugged body-on-frame platform featuring a rear-wheel-drive layout with a solid rear axle and leaf springs. Available body styles comprise a passenger minivan, a panel cargo van, and a two-door pickup truck variant. Powering the range are naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol engines displacement 1.0 and 1.2 liters, delivering outputs between 52 and 84 horsepower. Transmission duty is handled exclusively by a five-speed manual gearbox. The utilitarian interior offers seating configurations for five to eight occupants with durable fabric trim and straightforward dashboard controls. Standard equipment remains strictly functional, focusing on heating, ventilation, and basic radio preparation. Manufactured primarily in China, the model saw wide distribution across domestic regions and select developing export markets.
