The first-generation Volkswagen Voyage subcompact sedan (platform code G1 / BX) debuted in 1981 as the notchback derivative of the Gol. Offered in two-door and four-door body configurations, the Voyage was exported to North America from 1987 to 1993 under the Volkswagen Fox nameplate, requiring extensive redesign to meet US safety standards.
Powering the Voyage G1 were 1.5-liter, 1.6-liter, and 1.8-liter AP-series four-cylinder engines running on gasoline or ethanol, paired with four-speed or five-speed manual gearboxes. The sedan was renowned for structural durability.
