Launched in 2005, the second-generation Vauxhall Zafira was constructed on General Motors' Delta platform shared with the contemporary Astra H. Remaining a dedicated five-door compact MPV with the signature Flex7 seating layout, it gained a stiffer structure, increased cabin volume, and an optional full-length panoramic roof with integrated roof storage boxes. The petrol engine range included 1.6 and 1.8-litre naturally aspirated units, a 2.2 Direct petrol engine, and a 2.0-litre Turbo producing 240 hp in the performance-oriented Zafira VXR. The turbo-diesel portfolio relied on 1.9-litre CDTI engines co-developed with Fiat offering power outputs from 100 to 150 hp, which were later complemented by refined 1.7-litre CDTI EcoFlex options; factory-fitted CNG/LPG configurations were also available. Gearboxes included five- and six-speed manuals, Easytronic automated manuals, and six-speed torque-converter automatics. A facelift in 2008 introduced subtle exterior updates including restyled headlamps, a bolder chrome grille bar, and revised interior upholstery.
