Vauxhall Zafira I (A) gallery (1999–2005)

The first-generation Vauxhall Zafira was introduced in 1999 and built on the General Motors T-body platform shared with the Astra G. Offered strictly as a five-door compact MPV, the vehicle set a new benchmark in its segment thanks to the revolutionary Flex7 seating system, which allowed the third-row seats to fold completely flat into the boot floor without requiring removal from the vehicle. The powertrain lineup featured naturally aspirated 1.6, 1.8, and 2.2-litre Ecotec petrol engines, along with a high-performance 2.0-litre turbocharged engine producing up to 200 hp in the flagship GSi VXR/Turbo variant. Turbo-diesel options included 2.0 DTI and 2.2 DTI units, alongside dual-fuel factory LPG and CNG variants. Transmissions comprised five-speed manual gearboxes and four-speed automatic options. A mid-cycle refresh in 2003 brought a redesigned front grille, updated clear-lens rear lights, and improved cabin trim. Sold across the United Kingdom, Zafira A achieved massive commercial success as a practical family vehicle.
