The second-generation Vectra formally introduced the Vectra badge to the UK market, featuring sleek styling and multi-link rear suspension.
Debuting in late 1995, the Vauxhall Vectra (B) marked the official retirement of the long-running Cavalier nameplate in the British market. Built on an updated evolution of the GM2900 platform, it introduced an advanced multi-link rear suspension system for superior road holding and the iconic aerodynamically sculpted wing mirrors integrated into bonnet creases. Available body styles included a four-door saloon, five-door hatchback, and a spacious five-door estate. The powertrain lineup consisted of GM's 16-valve Ecotec petrol units in 1.6, 1.8, 2.0, and 2.2-litre displacements, alongside a 2.5-litre V6 (later enlarged to 2.6 litres) tuned to deliver up to 192 hp in the performance-focused Vectra GSi developed with MSD. Direct-injection 2.0 DTI and 2.2 DTI diesels supplemented early 1.7 TD powerplants. A comprehensive 1999 facelift brought one-piece front headlamps, retuned chassis components, upgraded interior switchgear, and enhanced corrosion protection.
