Vauxhall Monterey I (UBS) gallery (1992–1999)

Sold from 1992 to 1999, the Vauxhall Monterey was the brand's flagship full-size luxury off-roader, developed through General Motors' partnership with Isuzu as a right-hand-drive British version of the second-generation Isuzu Trooper (UBS platform). Built in Japan by Isuzu, the Monterey sat above the Frontera and was offered in both a short-wheelbase three-door configuration (known as the RS) and a spacious long-wheelbase five-door estate with luxurious trims such as the Diamond specification. Built on a heavy-duty ladder-frame chassis with independent double-wishbone front torsion suspension and a rugged coil-sprung live rear axle, it delivered exceptional off-road performance and superior towing capacity. Initial engine offerings included a 3.2-litre 24-valve petrol V6 delivering 177 hp and a robust 3.1-litre inline-four turbo-diesel, coupled with five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearboxes and a dual-range transfer box. In 1998, a major facelift introduced restyled front bodywork, a more powerful 3.5-litre V6 DOHC petrol engine with 215 hp, and a sophisticated 3.0-litre DTI common-rail turbo-diesel.
