The first-generation Vauxhall Insignia (A) was introduced in 2008 as a direct successor to the Vectra C, marking a substantial leap forward in design language, aerodynamics, and interior refinement. Built on General Motors' global Epsilon II architecture, it was produced as a five-door hatchback, a four-door saloon, and a spacious five-door estate known as the Sports Tourer, later joined by the rugged Country Tourer. Powertrain choices ranged from economical 1.4-litre and 1.6-litre turbo petrol units to naturally aspirated 1.8-litre engines and potent 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinders. The flagship performance model, the Insignia VXR, utilized an all-wheel-drive layout with an adaptive chassis and a 2.8-litre turbocharged V6 engine generating 325 hp. Turbo-diesel options centred around the dependable 2.0-litre CDTi and BiTurbo CDTi units paired with either six-speed manual or six-speed automatic gearboxes. A mid-cycle refresh in 2013 introduced redesigned headlights, a cleaner infotainment layout, and upgraded engine efficiencies for the UK market.
