Vauxhall Frontera II (B) gallery (1998–2004)

The second-generation Vauxhall Frontera (internal code B) was launched in late 1998, representing an extensive overhaul of the original concept while retaining the underlying Isuzu platform and robust ladder-frame chassis. The vehicle received fully redesigned exterior bodywork with softer lines, improved aerodynamics, integrated bumpers, and a thoroughly modernized, car-like dashboard and cabin layout. It continued to be produced in Luton in two body variants: the three-door short-wheelbase Sport and the five-door long-wheelbase family SUV. Handling and ride quality saw dramatic improvements thanks to a newly developed five-link coil-sprung rear suspension, a wider track, and revised steering geometry. A major technological leap was the introduction of the electronic Shift-on-the-Fly system, allowing drivers to engage four-wheel drive at speeds of up to 60 mph. Powertrain choices comprised a 2.2-litre 16-valve petrol engine, a flagship 3.2-litre Isuzu-sourced V6, and a refined 2.2-litre DTI direct-injection turbo-diesel, coupled with five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmissions.
