Vauxhall Agila I (A) photos

The first-generation Vauxhall Agila launched in 2000 as a practical, high-roof city car developed in partnership between General Motors and Suzuki, sharing almost all of its structural components with the Suzuki Wagon R+. Characterized by its upright, boxy profile, the Agila offered exceptional headroom, commanding visibility, and modular seat-folding practicality within an ultra-compact footprint designed for tight European urban environments. Powertrains included GM's efficient 1.0-litre three-cylinder and 1.2-litre four-cylinder twin-cam petrol engines from the Family 0 series, driving the front wheels via a crisp five-speed manual transmission. In 2003, the model received a comprehensive mid-lifecycle facelift that updated the styling to match Vauxhall's corporate grille, improved interior materials, and introduced an economical 1.3-litre CDTI common-rail turbo-diesel engine co-developed with Fiat. Built in Gliwice, Poland, the first Agila generation remained on sale in the UK until 2007.
