About this generation
Fourth-generation Toyota Century introduced as an ultra-luxury full-size SUV powered by a 3.5-liter V6 plug-in hybrid system.
The fourth-generation Toyota Century (chassis code G70) debuted in 2023, expanding the storied badge into the ultra-luxury crossover SUV segment for the first time. Built upon a modified version of the modular GA-K platform with a transverse engine layout, the G70 features an exceptionally rigid structure joined with structural adhesives, adaptive suspension dampers, and a Dynamic Rear Steering (DRS) system that enhances agility in tight quarters and stability at higher cruising speeds.
Propulsion is provided by a plug-in hybrid electric (PHEV) powertrain combining a 3.5-liter naturally aspirated 2GR-FXS V6 petrol engine with front and rear electric drive motors. The system generates a combined 412 horsepower, delivered via an e-CVT and Toyota's E-Four all-wheel-drive system. An underfloor lithium-ion battery pack provides an all-electric driving range of up to 69 kilometers measured under the WLTC test cycle.
Compared to the third-generation G60 sedan, which utilizes a longitudinal rear-wheel-drive platform powered by a 5.0-liter V8 hybrid unit, the G70 adopts an SUV silhouette, a raised seating position, an all-wheel-drive configuration, and an executive four-seat lounge layout with fully reclining rear seats. It also marks a pivotal shift from a strictly domestic Japanese limousine to an internationally exported flagship aimed at global markets.
