Manufactured from 2006 to 2009 at the CAMI Automotive joint-venture plant in Ontario, Canada, the second-generation Suzuki XL7 (chassis code JC49) shifted to General Motors' mid-size GM Theta unibody crossover platform. Measuring over 5 meters in length, the XL7 featured fully independent suspension and was available in 5-seater and 3-row 7-seater interior layouts designed for the North American market.

Powering the crossover was a 3.6-liter GM High Feature V6 engine (designated N36A by Suzuki) built in Japan, generating 252 hp and 329 Nm of torque. Initially mated to a 5-speed automatic, it was upgraded to a 6-speed automatic for 2008. The XL7 offered front-wheel drive or an available electronically controlled all-wheel-drive system. Production ceased in mid-2009 amid GM's financial restructuring.
