Unveiled at the Auto Expo in New Delhi in February 2016, the Suzuki Vitara Brezza (chassis code YFB) was designed by Maruti Suzuki as a sub-4-meter urban crossover. Built on Suzuki's global platform, it tailored its dimensions (3,995 mm length) to fit Indian favorable tax brackets while adopting classic SUV design cues such as square wheel arches, contrasting roof schemes, and 198 mm of ground clearance.

At launch, the Vitara Brezza was powered exclusively by a Fiat-derived 1.3-liter DDiS 200 turbodiesel engine producing 90 hp, paired with a 5-speed manual or Auto Gear Shift (AGS) automated manual. A 2020 mid-cycle update retired diesel options in favor of a 1.5-liter K15B naturally aspirated gasoline engine (105 hp) equipped with SHVS mild-hybrid technology and an optional 4-speed automatic transmission. In 2022, the model was succeeded by the second-generation Brezza, dropping the Vitara moniker.
