Unveiled at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show, the second-generation Subaru XV (GT code) migrated to the modular Subaru Global Platform (SGP), enhancing body rigidity by 70%. Maintaining a 220 mm ground clearance, it offered vastly improved road manners and NVH suppression. Engine options comprised the 1.6-liter FB16 and direct-injected 2.0-liter FB20D flat-fours mated to Lineartronic CVTs with X-Mode off-road logic. The engineering setup effectively combined the low center of gravity inherent to the horizontally-opposed engine layout with a rigid chassis frame, delivering precise handling and composure across dry pavement and slippery surfaces alike. Engine bay packaging ensured optimal front-to-rear axle weight distribution alongside efficient thermal cooling under sustained driving loads.

In 2018, Subaru introduced the e-Boxer mild-hybrid setup combining a 2.0-liter flat-four with a compact electric drive motor. A 2020 facelift refreshed the front bumper design, alloy wheels, and suspension tuning. By 2022-2023, Subaru consolidated global naming, replacing the XV label with the unified Crosstrek title. Designers placed a strong emphasis on cabin ergonomics, occupant visibility, and long-distance driving comfort. Robust mechanical reliability across the drivetrain and suspension components helped establish this generation as a benchmark choice within its competitive market segment worldwide.
