Unveiled in 2003, the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII was the first clean-sheet model developed under BMW Group ownership, manufactured at the new state-of-the-art Goodwood facility. Engineered around an advanced aluminium spaceframe platform, the Phantom VII blended classical proportions with modern technology, highlighted by rear-hinged powered coach doors and a self-levelling active air suspension system. It was propelled by a naturally aspirated 6.75-litre direct-injection V12 engine producing 453 bhp and 720 Nm of torque, initially mated to a six-speed ZF automatic gearbox. The lineup expanded with the extended-wheelbase limousine (EWB), the nautical-inspired Phantom Drophead Coupe in 2007, and the Phantom Coupe in 2008. In 2012, the comprehensive Series II update introduced full-LED adaptive headlights, a redesigned eight-speed automatic transmission, improved infotainment, and updated driver-assistance features. Selling across all major global luxury markets, the Phantom VII revitalized Rolls-Royce's status as the maker of the best car in the world.
