The sixth-generation Pontiac Grand Prix debuted in late 1996 for the 1997 model year, utilizing an evolved version of the front-wheel-drive W-body platform. Available in both coupe and sedan body styles, the exterior featured flowing, aerodynamic lines typical of late-90s automotive design. Powertrain choices ranged from dependable base V6 engines to the high-performance GTP trim, which utilized a supercharged 3.8-liter V6 producing 240 horsepower, mated to a heavy-duty four-speed automatic transmission. The interior emphasized driver engagement with a wrap-around dashboard layout featuring clear analog instrumentation and optional heads-up display technology. Throughout its production run through 2003, the model received minor annual updates, special anniversary editions, and suspension refinements to maintain its competitive edge.
